178 OpenLayers: An AJAX Library for Building Mapping Applications on the Web OpenLayers is a BSD-licensed, pure JavaScript API for building map applications on the Web. OpenLayers offers the ability to display a number of different types of data (e.g. WMS, WFS, point data) in a dynamic, AJAX-driven, "slippy" mapping interface. We will look at how to view data from OGC web services, GeoRSS feeds, ka-Map caches, Google Maps, KML, and more in OpenLayers. We will also examine how the OpenLayers API makes it easy to build new and slick mapping apps.
