83 The Debian Gis project represented since its startup the very first community project with the aim of creating a GIS oriented GNU/Linux distribution, by coordinating development efforts and managing common infrastructures and policy within the already mature Debian GNU/Linux development cycle. The talk deals with an analysis of the state-of-art for the DebianGis project in terms of packages, policies and development tools; general considerations about the aims and needs of a generic GIS distribution; experiences in working both with upstream developers and the user base; future goals.
