59 CartoWeb for beginners CartoWeb (http://www.cartoweb.org) is both a comprehensive and ready-to-use Web-GIS and a convenient framework for building customized applications. It is based on Mapserver. In this workshop, we'll focus on its "ready-to-use" aspect. A second workshop deals with some advanced features, like distributed edition of geodata, and the extension of its functional range. After a short introduction to the global architecture of CartoWeb, we'll address the configuration of its standard features: - Organization of the hierarchy of layers - Initial state of the application - Persistent queries - Customized highlighting of selected features on map - Redlining and annotations - Access control to the application - Configuration of PDF export To make the most of this workshop, at least a basic working knowledge of Mapserver configuration (mapfiles) would be a non negligible asset.
