Google Summer of Code 2006 is a program that offers student developers stipends to
create new open source programs or to help currently established projects. Google is
working with a variety of open source, free software, and technology-related groups.
This year it is the first time when there are also project focused on the
Geoinformatics. The organization that offers such projects is called Refraction
Research. The aim of this paper is to describe Summer of Code itself and also the
projects that have been in progress this year (with respect to (geoinformatics). More
attention will also be given to the author’s project “Coordinate system
transformations”. This project is focused on uDig and Geotools. |
